Job Description

The Program Manager cum Senior Instructor is an integral part of the OBV’s training and operations team, focusing on the coordination of one and multi-day programmes for local schools, international schools/corporations and other clients that come to OBV for an outdoor education programme,  This position works to provide expertise in programme pedagogy and design, evaluate programme outcomes and develop new programmes.  Additionally the incumbent has to display  leadership, provide administrative support and coordination to ensure safe and effective program delivery while working to support all field staff in their administrative, logistical, and training needs upholding Outward Bound’s core values through expedition instruction. The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge and experience of Outward Bound learning models and experience in developing exciting Outdoor Education (OE) programmes backed by research and practice. At the same time, this staff is expected to act as a Senior Instructor as and when needed.


Program Management

  • Lead Programme Development
  • Review and Evaluate Programmes, prepare programme impact reports
  • Train instructors on programme design and curriculum development
  • Manage the instructor and participant feedback system/OBOS surveys
  • Support post course programs, follow-up activities, projects and events
  • Leading the instructor team in the design, delivery, and quality-assurance of all programs conducted at OBV
  • Assist Marketing Team in creating course related materials
  • Conduct external stakeholder briefings


  • Participate and manage programme safety systems
  • Participate in on-call systems and respond to field emergencies
  • Assist Operations Manager creating the content for and delivery of Programme related safety briefings for field staff and clients
  • Assist in coordination Safety Reviews and Safety Audit as well as Programme audits


  • Familiarity with courses and activities in outdoor education, particularly experience in Outward Bound school-based programs, or any other outdoor centre programmes is strongly preferred
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, administrative skills and attention to detail
  • Flexible, adaptable and open to change
  • Strong personal motivation, initiative, follow through and commitment
  • Knowledge of OB programs, philosophy and methodology
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively as a team member and to give and receive both positive and constructive feedback
  • Able to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Very effective communicator, both written and oral
  • Current WFR and CPR certification will be an advantage
  • Proficient with PC in Word® and Excel®. Familiar with digitalisation
  • Willingness to spend time in field evaluating staff and their development, and occasionally instructing and course directing

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 5 years of experience in professional settings
  • Minimum 5 years of outdoor experiential education or teaching experience required
  • Outward Bound or other wilderness expeditionary experience preferred
  • Supervisory experience is preferred
  • Experience working with youths and corporate clients
  • English skills is a requirement

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to participate in vigorous physical activity/ training as this is a field position that also includes planning work in the office
