HOW WE DEVELOP EMOTIONAL COMPETENCIES

The Outward Bound Trust programmes provide participants with a unique experience of adventure and learning in the wild that has proven emotional, psychological and social benefits, as well as health-related benefits. Independent research shows that the outcomes achieved during an outdoor learning programme are as a result of group interaction and challenge.

In 2015, the Outward Bound Trust conducted a more in-depth evaluation involving a small number of apprentice programmes in order to assess the impact back in the workplace.

YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE MORE AWARE OF, AND CONNECTED WITH, THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

Outward Bound Trust conducted an evaluation of seven 5-day Outward Bound courses delivered between May 2015 and June 2016. The course objectives, as well as achieving the John Muir Award at Discovery Level, included specific environmental outcomes (such as increased respect for the environment and learning about man’s environmental impact).
