BRITISH STANDARD 8848:2014
At Outward Bound Vietnam, we aspire to provide genuinely adventurous activities which have an element of real risk. This can only be done by having robust systems of safety and risk management.
We are aligned with the British Standard 8848: Specification for the provision of visits, fieldwork, expeditions, and adventurous activities outside the United Kingdom (BS 8848: 2014). This conformity has been verified through self-assessment, and this information is available for review as part of a school’s due diligence preparations prior to a program.
British Standard 8848 enables venture providers to put in place a system to assess and manage risks, covering both the venture itself and the capabilities and experience of venture leaders and participants. British Standard 8848 can also assure participants that venture providers are following good practices to help reduce the risk of injury or illness.
What is British Standard 8848?
British Standard 8848 covers organizing and managing visits, fieldwork, expeditions, and adventurous activities outside the United Kingdom. It outlines good practices for venture providers to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone taking part. It shows organizations how to plan ventures, identify potential risks and manage them effectively. It also requires participants to be given clear information to make informed decisions about risks to their safety.
The standard covers all aspects of the venture – from planning, transport, staff, and accommodation to the activities themselves.
